In the reading, Lewis talks about how the diagnosis "homosexuality" was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which was met with sarcastic comments from those in the LGBTQ+ community. This sparked Lewis to talk about the concept of authenticity and activism in big corporations regarding addressing and recognizing marginalized groups. Considering how activism usually comes from smaller groups, specifically the groups who are being marginalized, large corporations and companies are not known to participate in these activist movements, and when they do, their only goal is to profit off of them. These corporations feels like they can provide a voice for marginalized groups, yet they tend to consist of those who are privileged or are not in the minority, so most of the time they simply spread misinformation or show general disregard for these communities. These attempts to speak for or show support for these groups feel unauthentic, just a means to profit off of them and gain good publicity for their company, rather than actually advocating for the community.
