Hey y'all! (yes, I unironically use y'all, get used to it)
My name is Raine Vazquez and I'm a junior at UMBC majoring in English with a minor in Photography. I identify as nonbinary and use they/them pronouns. I am bisexual, have raging ADHD, and I love to sing, listen to music, feed squirrels (I'm just a huge animal lover in general), watch movies, play videogames, and love fashion and cosmetics. I hope to pursue a career in photojournalism, specifically working for a newspaper or magazine.
For my movement, I am going to be studying the rather well-known Me Too Movement, dedicated to victims of sexual assault, where most of the population of this movement consists of women. Unfortunately, many victims of sexual assault are not taken seriously and often have a hard time receiving justice for the inexcusable crime they were subjected to. This movement allows these victims to find community amongst each other, providing a sense of solidarity and understanding. I wish to address specific messages and consolations those in the community have shared, as well as broach the topic of men also being victims of SA and whether or not the Me Too movement should stay as a feminist movement or branch out to provide resources for men as well. Now that I think about it, I definitely want to discuss the idea of women also being sexual abusers, and how this could branch out to those in the LGBTQ+ community who are victims of SA, as the Me Too movement is often associated with straight people.
