Weeks 12+13

In "Activist Genre Knowledge" Jennifer Nish discusses how uptakes are considered by consumers of social media posts and the different kinds of uptakes. As all three of my sources are on social media platforms, they all have uptakes that I can investigate and consider how posts are responded to as a result of said uptakes.

Dr. Lea Merone posted a response to this tweet, providing resources on medical misogyny as well as bringing her followers' attention to the article in the original tweet. She utilizes multiple hashtags, highlighting what she wants to be of importance in this tweet and circulating it to a wider audience. This sticky uptake allows for her tweet to join the pool of other tweets that come up when people search for something like "#misogyny" contributing to the information available and expanding what people may or may not be aware of.

Jessica Pin, on the other hand, has more of a counteruptake approach to tweeting. While oftentimes medically accurate and informative, she chooses to take a more aggressive and targeted approach in her tweeting choices, tending to attract negative attention from those who she is in direct disagreement with. When providing medical information, especially information as accurate and important as that which is found on Pin's account, the tweeter usually has a more clinical, removed tone. Take the tweet below, for example:

In the tweet above, Pin is providing factually correct information, and is frustrated because of the lack of knowledge surrounding women's anatomy. While this is reasonable, the way in which she is choosing to go about tweeting this information can come off as aggressive, and the tweet above is a milder example of this. This leads to dissenting comments on most of her posts, as she is providing information about medical misogyny in a way that diverges from what is expected -- a counteruptake.
