Finding commonality in division

This week's reading on Barbara Smith highlights the pros and cons of trying to find commonality in a movement. As Smith talks about getting people together for the feminist cause, we also see that intersectionality has always been an issue, thus raising the question...how do we keep an eye on the goal when the goal is different for each person within a cause. For example, within the feminist movement, as noted by Smith, there were black feminists, who had different experiences. This was something that was raised as recently as the Women's March which sought to highlight struggles by women but struggled to adequately acknowledge how race and identity factor in those struggles. I watched some groups disband among internal conflict related to intersectionality. If we all want equality, why is it so hard to find the common ground?
