More History... except with text!

This week we had to read a really long document that covered how the Gay Liberation activists achieved homosexuality's removal from the DSM and the conversations surrounding that accomplishment. Shockingly, not all members of the gay community were happy with this success because they felt that it either changed nothing or didn't really matter (because what truly matters is how one and their immediate community viewed and treated them). The purpose of this reading was to showcase how and why activists often butt heads with a larger authority, or institution, like the government. Hooowever, unless my research just isn't turning up results, this concept cannot be applied to my movement. It's impossible! (Weeell, maybe not "impossible, but to do so would require me to dip into another movement that's tangentially related to my current.)

To recap, as you know, I'm working on the, for lack of a better term, "#womeningames" movement, which focuses on the empowerment and support of getting more women into the gaming industry. Therefore, since my movement moreso focuses on helping the individual, it doesn't really face-off with an institution. Even if it was going to, the fact that women aren't in the gaming industry is a problem across the board for the gaming industry and not just one company (though I guess they could possible tackle one at a time).

The only major altercations that kept popping up was the sexual harassment and gender discrimination that women face in the workplace. Although this is a problem that's definitely a part of the reason why not a lot of women are excited to enter the industry (something confirmed by this week's example article and a reason why one of the "noteworthy women" of last week's left for a while), diving into this would be a different movement entirely that I don't want to focus on or get into.
