Pro Choice and the Fight for Reproductive Rights - Resources

There are many resources from which information about the fight for reproductive rights can be obtained. Some are fairly intuitive, given the notoriety and longevity of some organizations like Planned Parenthood or Pro Choice America (NARAL). Accordingly, these groups were the first places I looked to gather information in real time.

Resource #1

Planned parenthood is a longtime advocate in the fight for reproductive rights. Their website features news and calls to action which include donations. As it did with Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the organization is sometimes a party to legal actions in support of reproductive health care access. Although much of their website is devoted to garnering financial support, there are articles posted which show how the fight is going in the elections and in the courts.

Resource #2

NARAL is a lobbying and activist group which also features links to other groups supporting abortion access movement. From this site, I learned of Emily's List which is a group that focuses efforts on electing female candidates who will support legislation that protects access to reproductive health care. Under the Media tab, NARAL provided a series of press releases which showed updated information relevant to the fight for abortion access.

Resource #3

Emily’s List Twitter feed and website (https://www.emilyslist.org.) Daily tweets encouraging people to vote to elect politicians who will defend our reproductive rights. For example, one of the tweets featured an article posted this week on the PBS website (https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/which-states-have-abortion-on-the-ballot-in-november). It discussed which states would have abortion questions on the ballot during the November elections.

The website features female politicians and offers options to donate to a cause and campaign.

Secondary resource

This is a link which shows the states that have banned abortion etc. It is updated periodically to reflect law changes in real time. It is a good resource because it also discusses the legalities and shows what was most recently updated, including whether or not there are legal challenges in the court system. Also, there is an interactive part which allows readers to search for a specific state. This is not likely a good weekly resource as there may not be weekly updates to the laws or cases regarding said laws, but it is likely a source from which pro-choice organizations may pull needed information.
