This blog is based off of our reading, "Genres and How Writers and Readers Depend on Them." I thought it was a really interesting read in trying to understand the purpose of genres, and how much some of our entertainers really rely on them to make their job a little easier in zeroing in a subject/genre. While it was intriguing, there was some difficulty and understanding the exact role of genres. But in the end, one can come to the understanding that there is no 'one role' for any genre. Genre systems, and how genres interact with each other were crucial to how I understand how genres can co-exist within the same piece. In any type of team effort, there are genres that help make the piece come together. In a band, if everyone is playing the same instrument, it will sound fine, but an audience wants to see a plethora of instruments come together. It works for any type of project; a business? One needs the good salesman, but they also need the 'behind the curtain' people to crunch numbers, and make sure everything falls into place. While we have to assign a genre to a movie, or song, no artist or director is limiting their singers/actors to one genre. Just the dominant genre becomes the household name for that specific thing. Super cool to read about because in high school, everything is always just limited to one genre.
