Week 8 Blog

Early activism, and becoming one of the first to make that first punch within your movement. Barbara Smith, who played a major role in Black Feminism, and talks about how her life and impact on activism came to be in the interview we read, was one of the pioneers of Black Feminism activism! In class, we talked about the hardships she faced in daily life, let alone trying to organize events for the movement. I really resonated with her being such a trailblazer for a movement. Now, she was directly impacted in her movement, but I still think it is justified for me to feel some of the same things she felt. We are all just trying to make changes for the greater good, ya' know? Anyway, being in these early chapters of your movements activism is challenging, to say the least. There are so many questions: What is easier for most people? What will reach people the most? How do we do it? When is the right time? One of the things I took away from Smith was that it's not about the perfect timing of things. If you care, and never give up, you will get to where you want to be. Her story is inspiring, and I thought it was really remarkable to read about.
